Brisbane Weather Warning

The rain has been hanging around for a few days, so the team at Sully’s Auto would like to take this time to encourage everybody to be safe on the roads.

Local flooding is occurring due to a large amount of rain in a short period of time. The roads are slippery and extra care needs to be taken. Slow down, be aware of your surroundings. If it’s flooded, forget it! It’s not worth risking your life or others by trying to cross a road with water over it. Not to mention the inconvenience of losing your car due to it going underwater!

While we can’t fix a flood-damaged car, we can do minor mechanical repairs, and we are the experts in car air conditioning in Brisbane, where it is vital to have! Why not contact us today to see how we can help you keep your cool when the weather is extreme?

New Speed Limits on the M1/Pacific Motorway

New Speed Limits on the M1/Pacific Motorway

speedometer Today’s blog post is a Public Service Announcement. It is aimed for those who travel the M1/Pacific Motorway from Brisbane to the Gold Coast. Due to the Commonwealth Games next month, the speed limit has been lowered from 100km to 90km from the Gateway merge. The 110km zone has been lowered to 100km. These new laws started yesterday, so be aware and slow down! It was published today that camera and police cars will be out everywhere along the highway. What is also different about this change, is there will be no grace period if you get caught over the new limit. Usually there is a 28 day period of letting people off with a warning if they get pulled over. Not so this time! Even more reason to be safe, and slow down!

5 Car Cleaning Hacks to Save You Time & Money

5 Car Cleaning Hacks to Save You Time & Money

It’s a fact of life that when it comes to cleaning our own cars, we tend to let it go longer than we should. Today, the team at Sully’s Auto are going to share some quick hacks for keeping your car looking clean and tidy with little effort.

  1. Toothpaste will clean the cloudiness off your headlights! Apply a layer of toothpaste to your headlights, and then scrub off.
  2. Magic Erasers will make quick work of cleaning your leather seats and interiors without leaving smells or residue
  3. Use a slightly damp sock to wipe over your air vents and speakers to get rid of dust
  4. Use a wooden clothes peg dipped in essential oils for a quick, easy car air freshener. Just peg to your air vents
  5. Don’t forget the inside of your windshield needs to be cleaned as well as the outside. Use warm water, a few drops of vinegar and dish washing liquid and wipe the inside of your windshield.
  6. If you have children in car seats, put down a sheet or towel under their seats to catch the inevitable mess that happens with kids in cars!

We hope these quick tips help save you time, money and get your car looking better! Don’t forget, for any of your mechanical needs, you can contact Sully’s Auto via the link here, or by phoning us directly.

Have You Checked Your Tyres Lately?

Have You Checked Your Tyres Lately?

person changing tyre Checking the amount of wear on your tyres is something most of us don’t really think of, until something happens. When you get a service done on your car, it is a good idea to get your tyre’s pressure checked, rotated and balanced to ensure even wear. Driving on worn tyres, particularly in wet conditions, means you’re unable to stop safely. This can mean you end up sliding over the road. Other potential issues include bubbling, or even a blowout.

So, how do you know if your tyres are reaching the end of their life? All tyres have little markers in the treads to use as a base for when your tyres should be replaced. If the wear isn’t even all around, it could mean your car is unbalanced or the tyre pressure is uneven in all four tyres. If there is hardly any tread at all, or smooth areas anywhere on your tyres, it is vital to get them replaced as soon as possible.

Haven’t looked at your tyres for a while, why not get them checked out today? It could save you some strife or even an accident.

Air Filters and Your Car

Air Filters and Your Car

Car Air Conditioner When you take your car in for a service, the mechanic will provide you with an itemised invoice explaining what work was done. Going through the invoice, are you confused by separate entries for an air filter, and a cabin air filter? Aren’t they the same thing, regarding your car air conditioning? Well, the answer is yes they both involve cooling your car, and no, they are not the same thing. Today we explain the difference so you don’t think you’re being ripped off.

What is the Air Filter?

The air filter is essentially air conditioning for your engine. It is found in a sealed compartment within the engine bay. This ensures air going into the engine from outside is free from dust, debris, pollen and other allergens. It is essential to get this filter replaced regularly to make sure it is doing its job properly. Problems can arise if it gets blocked, such as increased engine wear and fuel consumption to run the car.

What is the Cabin Filter?

This separate filter is actually inside your car air conditioning system, to filter out dirt, dust and pollen coming through the vents in the dashboard of the car. This air is what actually cools you down. It also filters odours from outside and the exhaust system. It can also clog up over time, and will need to be replaced regularly to make sure you get the most benefit out of your air conditioning. If you leave it too long, mould and odours can build up and end up in the car cabin, and nobody wants to smell that!

We hope this has cleared up any confusion you might have had about air filters and what they do. If you think that your filters haven’t been changed for a while, Sully’s Auto can help with that! Contact us now and we’ll have both yourself and your engine staying cool, calm and collected!

Get Outdoors With Your Dog This Weekend!

If you and your best canine friend are looking for something a bit different to do this Saturday morning, why not consider taking a trip up to Cleveland and joining other people and their friends to the Pups on Sups event?

There’s nothing like getting out on the water on a beautiful sunny day. It can be made even better by sharing it with your dog. Most dogs love getting out and about with their owners, and also love going to the beach.

You might be saying to yourself “What does SUP mean?” For those who don’t know, it’s an abbreviation for Stand Up Paddleboard. It is a great form of exercise similar to canoeing, except you stand on a board and use your balance to stay upright.

You can find event info here about location and requirements. From the team at Sully’s Auto, we hope you have fun whatever you decide to do!
