How To Change a Tyre

How To Change a Tyre

how to change a tyre It’s almost certain that at some point in your driving life, you’ll end up with a flat tyre. Surprisingly, many people have no idea how to change a tyre in an emergency breakdown! While we are the Brisbane car air conditioning experts, Sully’s Auto is also committed to providing information that is relevant to owning a car.

The most important start to this guide is to make sure the spare tyre you keep in your car is in good condition. Make sure you have the tools for changing a tyre stored in your car as well. Without these two essential things, you aren’t going to be able to get any further.

Steps For Changing a Tyre

  1. Ensure all passengers are out of the car, and the handbrake is applied. If your car is an automatic, make sure it’s set in Park. For manual cars, it needs to be in gear.
  2. Use bricks or other heavy items to secure the wheels on the opposite side of the car to prevent rolling.
  3. Remove the hub cap or centre cover to access the wheel nuts, and loosen them with the wrench. Do not remove them all the way yet!
  4. Find the jacking point underneath your car, and slide the jack into position. If you are unsure where this is, check your car’s manual.
  5. Slowly raise the car enough to be able to safely lift the flat tyre off.
  6. Loosen and remove the wheel nuts the rest of the way, and then slide the tyre towards you, and lift it off the axle.
  7. Put the spare tyre into place, and replace the wheel nuts. Make sure they are going on the correct way! Hand tighten them as much as possible.
  8. Carefully lower the vehicle back to the ground. Once that is done, remove the jack, and tighten the wheel nuts firmly with the wrench.
  9. Replace the hub cap or centre cover, put the flat tyre and wheel kit back in your boot.
  10. Continue on your way and take the tyre to be fixed or replaced.

We hope this quick guide has been helpful to you! Over the coming week we will be posting more quick guides with handy car tips, if you have any suggestions on content, leave a comment below!

Air Filters and Your Car

Air Filters and Your Car

Car Air Conditioner When you take your car in for a service, the mechanic will provide you with an itemised invoice explaining what work was done. Going through the invoice, are you confused by separate entries for an air filter, and a cabin air filter? Aren’t they the same thing, regarding your car air conditioning? Well, the answer is yes they both involve cooling your car, and no, they are not the same thing. Today we explain the difference so you don’t think you’re being ripped off.

What is the Air Filter?

The air filter is essentially air conditioning for your engine. It is found in a sealed compartment within the engine bay. This ensures air going into the engine from outside is free from dust, debris, pollen and other allergens. It is essential to get this filter replaced regularly to make sure it is doing its job properly. Problems can arise if it gets blocked, such as increased engine wear and fuel consumption to run the car.

What is the Cabin Filter?

This separate filter is actually inside your car air conditioning system, to filter out dirt, dust and pollen coming through the vents in the dashboard of the car. This air is what actually cools you down. It also filters odours from outside and the exhaust system. It can also clog up over time, and will need to be replaced regularly to make sure you get the most benefit out of your air conditioning. If you leave it too long, mould and odours can build up and end up in the car cabin, and nobody wants to smell that!

We hope this has cleared up any confusion you might have had about air filters and what they do. If you think that your filters haven’t been changed for a while, Sully’s Auto can help with that! Contact us now and we’ll have both yourself and your engine staying cool, calm and collected!

Car Air Conditioning Economy

A Few Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Car Air Conditioning in Brisbane

carWith fuel prices as high as they are, you want your car air conditioning to do its job without chewing through your petrol. Below is a few tips to make running your car air conditioning as economical as possible.

  • Don’t worry about running the air conditioner before your journey. It is far more effective when the car is actually running.
  • Make sure your filters are replaced regularly. Sully’s Auto can help with this!
  • Don’t use the “recycled” air option. While it cools the car for the front passengers, the backseat passengers will still get warmer air.
  • Use Climate Control if you have it. This was designed for optimal performance.

If you are still unsure how to use or maintain your car air conditioning for this Brisbane climate, contact us now and we’ll help you out!
